Mr-Glass Window Replacement: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
Mr-Glass window replacement in Fort Worth typically runs $320 to $680 per window installed, depending on glass package, frame condition, and size. We stock common Mr-Glass-compatible sash and insulated glass units on our trucks, so most replacements are done in one visit. You’ll usually know something failed when the room feels warmer than it should, the glass fogs between the panes, or you hear more street noise than last year. The majority of Fort Worth homeowners call us after spotting condensation inside the pane or finding the sash won’t lock square anymore.
This page covers what fails, what a Mr-Glass replacement actually costs in Fort Worth, and how we handle the job. Meridian Windows and Doors Fort Worth is an independent service provider. We’re authorized to install Mr-Glass products but we don’t work for the manufacturer.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass builds windows in a few distinct lines: single-hung, double-hung, horizontal sliders, and casement units. The replacement part you need depends on which one you have. Most Fort Worth homes built between 1995 and 2015 with Mr-Glass use their standard double-hung series, which takes a 5/8″ insulated glass unit and a snap-in glazing bead. But we’ve seen enough variance across Fort Worth subdivisions to know better than to assume.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Mr-Glass changed their glazing bead profile around 2008. Pre-2008 units use a squared-off bead. Post-2008 uses a tapered one. The glass size may be identical, but the bead won’t seat if you grab the wrong generation. We check the etching code on the spacer bar, the lower-right corner of the glass. It tells you the IG unit dimensions, glass package, and year of manufacture. If your existing window opens from the bottom only, that’s a single-hung. If both sashes move, it’s a double-hung. The part numbers differ even when the glass size is identical.
As for parts: we prefer genuine Mr-Glass when the unit is still in production and available. When it’s not, we turn to a proven aftermarket IG unit built to the same spacer thickness and low-E spec, fully compatible with the existing frame. We’ll tell you which way we’re going and why before you pay a dollar.
Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Replacement Is Failing
- Fog or condensation between the panes. The edge seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Argon or krypton gas has leaked out and moist Fort Worth air has crept in. Once the seal is gone, the glass can’t be cleaned from the inside. It gets replaced, not scrubbed.
- The sash won’t stay up or won’t close square. Usually the balance shoe or pivot bar has worn. The window frame’s weight distribution shifts and the sash tilts out of true, which stresses the corner joints and eventually cracks a seal or a hinge.
- Visible glass scratches or chips that spread. North Texas spring hailstorms are the usual culprit. A chip can grow across the pane, particularly with the heat cycling Fort Worth gets from April through September. A cracked IG unit loses its structural integrity and eventually its seal.
- Room-facing glass feels hot in summer or cold in winter. The low-E coating has degraded or the gas fill is gone. The window looks fine, but it’s not blocking radiant heat anymore. Your HVAC system carries the load that the window used to stop.
- Drafts around the sash edges or a whistling noise on windy days. Weatherstripping has compressed, or the frame has shifted slightly out of square. That movement stresses the glass unit over time and opens the door for moisture to reach the seal.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, expect to pay $320 to $680 per Mr-Glass window replacement, installed. Smaller fixed or single-hung units sit at the low end. Larger casements, tempered glass, or a two-story install land near the top. The range depends on three things: glass package, sash condition, and access. A standard clear or low-E IG unit in a standard-size double-hung is the $320 to $420 job. Add argon fill, a heavier glass thickness, or a custom size and the number climbs.
What you get from us: the part, the labor, the seal work, and a written line-item price before the first tool comes off the truck. Every Mr-Glass replacement we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the install fails within a year, we return and make it right at no charge. You’ll also get our fixed-price commitment: the number on the written estimate is the number you pay. No change orders tucked around the corner.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look for a cracked or fogged pane. Note whether the sash tilts or sticks. Wipe down the track and check for obvious debris. Those are inspection tasks and they help you describe the problem accurately when you call.
Replacing a Mr-Glass insulated glass unit is not a casual weekend project. The sash must be de-glazed cleanly, which means prying the bead off without cracking it, especially on the pre-2008 squared style we mentioned earlier. Lift the old unit wrong and you’ll drop a 30-pound piece of glass on your patio or your foot. Install the replacement slightly out of level and the sash won’t seat, the lock won’t catch, and water will find the gap. We’ve corrected enough DIY attempts in Fort Worth to say it plainly: the money you save on labor gets spent twice when the seal pops and you buy another unit.
If you’d rather have it measured, ordered, and installed by someone who does this every week, call (682) 708-0962. We’ll give you a straight answer and a written quote.
FAQs
A properly installed Mr-Glass insulated glass unit should hold its seal for 15 to 20 years in Fort Worth. The real killer is the combination of North Texas heat and west-facing exposure. Windows that catch full afternoon sun on a brick wall in Ridglea or Arlington Heights can fail a few years sooner than shaded north-facing units. The seal either holds or it doesn’t – we make sure it holds.
If the glass is fogged, no. A failed seal on an IG unit can’t be resealed in the field. The glass gets replaced. If the sash hardware is the problem, the balance or pivot shoe can often be swapped without replacing the glass, and that’s a cheaper fix. Call (682) 708-0962 and tell us what you’re seeing; we’ll ask the right questions.
Most single-sash replacements take 45 to 90 minutes from start to finish, including old unit removal, glass replacement, and seal. A full-frame replacement rune longer. We’ll give you a window of time when we schedule the work and call when we’re on the way.
We keep the common double-hung and single-hung IG units, glazing bead profiles, and sash balances on our service trucks. If a part needs to be ordered from the manufacturer, and it’s still being made, we’ll have it in hand and on your home within 5 to 7 business days. We’ll tell you up front which path your job takes.
Yes. We stock and install parts for PGT, CGI, and CWS as well. If you have a mixed house of windows – some Mr-Glass, some PGT – one call handles all of it. We’ll match each unit to its correct model and line.
