PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
Most PGT sliding and patio door part replacements in Fort Worth run between $220 and $1,100 installed, depending on whether we are swapping rollers, replacing a lock assembly, or rebuilding a warped panel. We stock common PGT-compatible parts on the truck and can usually match your series the same day we look at it. The way most owners find us: the door starts dragging, the lock stops catching, or the panel suddenly feels like it weighs 200 pounds when it used to glide with two fingers.
PGT builds a solid door, but Fort Worth tests every seal and roller. Heat expands aluminum and vinyl frames. Dust from dry summers works its way into the track. Clay-heavy soil shifts under slabs and pulls frames out of square. When a PGT door fails here, it is rarely the glass. It is almost always a mechanical part doing the grinding work day after day.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
We work on the full PGT sliding and patio door range: the 700 Series, 900 Series, and PGT’s vinyl 760/960 lines, plus the impact-rated WinGuard and non-impact Eze-Breeze sliding panels. The compatibility gotcha with PGT is that roller assemblies changed between manufacturing years even within the same series. A 2014 700 Series door and a 2021 700 Series door can take different roller housings. The only way to match it correctly is to pull the panel and read the stamp on the old part or measure the roller wheel diameter and housing width.
OEM PGT parts exist and we can order them, but honest talk: several aftermarket roller and lock kits from Caldwell and Prime-Line match PGT specs exactly and cost 30 to 45 percent less. We will quote both and tell you which one makes sense for a door that is five years old versus fifteen. If the door is still under PGT warranty, we will walk you through that process first and handle the labor either way.
Signs Your PGT Sliding & Patio Door Is Failing
- Panel drags or grinds on the track. This means the roller wheels have flat-spotted or the bearings have seized. Replacing rollers before the track gets gouged saves you a much bigger bill.
- Lock does not catch or requires lifting the panel. The lock keeper has worn down or the door has settled out of alignment. A misaligned PGT multi-point lock will chew through the striker plate until neither one works.
- Drafts coming through the closed door. The weatherstripping along the interlock or the sill has compressed after years of Texas temperature swings. This is a part failure, not a door failure, and it is usually under $150 to fix.
- Water pooling at the interior track after rain. The weep holes in the sill are clogged or the sill dam has failed. Fort Worth’s thunderstorm season will find this defect every time.
- Panel feels loose when you push on the top. The head guide or the top hanger has worn. Left alone, the panel will start chipping glass at the corner.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here is the straight pricing picture in Fort Worth, parts and labor included:
- Roller replacement (both panels): $220 to $390 installed
- Lock or lock keeper replacement: $160 to $280 installed
- Weatherstripping and interlock seal replacement: $120 to $260 installed
- Track repair or sill replacement: $350 to $750 installed
- Full panel rebuild (frame, rollers, lock, seals): $500 to $1,100 installed
The range depends on whether we are doing a single panel or both, aluminum versus vinyl frame, and whether the track needs extraction work. Every quote goes in writing before we touch the door, and the written price does not move at the door. All of this work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within the year, we come back at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely clean the track, clear the weep holes with a wire or compressed air, and check whether the lock screws are loose. That is real maintenance and it costs you nothing. Where DIY goes wrong on a PGT door is the roller swap and the panel removal. A vinyl PGT panel with glass weighs 100 to 180 pounds. It comes out at an angle under tension, and if it drops, you are replacing glass, not rollers. We have fixed enough DIY attempts to say plainly: the first hour of our labor is cheaper than a cracked panel.
We inspect the door first and tell you what actually needs replacing. No push, no scare tactics. Call (682) 708-0962 and we can usually match the part same day.
FAQs
In our Fort Worth market, PGT rollers typically last 8 to 15 years depending on door weight, use, and track debris. Doors on west-facing elevations with full afternoon heat exposure wear faster because the frame and roller housing expand and contract through wider temperature swings. If the door is used multiple times daily, expect the lower end of that range.
Rollers and weatherstripping are replace-only parts because the bearing surface and the compression material physically wear out. A multi-point lock can sometimes be repaired if the issue is a loose linkage or a misaligned strike plate. We will tell you which path makes sense before quoting anything. Call (682) 708-0962 for an inspection.
Most roller, lock, and weatherstripping jobs on PGT doors are done in 60 to 90 minutes once the panel is on the bench. Track repairs and sill replacements run 2 to 4 hours because of extraction and sealant cure time. We give you a time window in writing along with the price.
We stock common PGT-compatible rollers, lock assemblies, and weatherstripping kits on the truck for the 700 and 900 series, and we can pull the vinage-specific part by panel stamp right on site. For less common PGT parts or manufacturer-specific hardware on newer WinGuard units, we order direct and typically have the part in 3 to 5 business days. We also stock compatible parts for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows doors so a call to us is never dead-ended over a model number.
